Summary of Ultrasonic Water Meter Installation Precautions

When installing an ultrasonic water meter, pay attention to the following key issues to ensure measurement accuracy and equipment life:

1. Installation location selection

- Straight pipe section requirements:

- A straight pipe section of more than 5 times the pipe diameter is required in front of the meter, and a straight pipe section of 3 times the pipe diameter is required after the meter (for example, if the pipe diameter is DN20, at least 100mm in front of the meter and 60mm behind the meter).

- Avoid elbows, valves, pumps and other flow-disturbing elements close to the water meter, otherwise it will cause water flow turbulence and affect measurement accuracy.

- Direction and horizontality:

- Install in the direction of the arrow on the meter body consistent with the direction of water flow.

- Ensure horizontal or vertical installation (depending on the model requirements), with an inclination angle of no more than ±5°.

- Environmental conditions:

- Avoid strong magnetic fields or vibration environments (such as near motors and inverters).

- A protective box is required for outdoor installation to prevent exposure to the sun or freezing.

2. Pipeline and water quality requirements

- Full pipe state: The pipe must be filled with water to avoid bubble accumulation (especially when installed horizontally, the transducer is prone to air accumulation when facing upward).

- Clean water quality: When there are too many impurities or bubbles in the water, a filter or exhaust valve needs to be installed.

- Pipe diameter matching: The nominal diameter of the water meter must be consistent with the pipe, and it is prohibited to reduce or expand the diameter for installation.

3. Installation operation details

- Threaded or flange connection:

- Small-diameter water meters (generally less than DN50) are threaded connections, which are relatively simple to install.

- Large-diameter water meters generally use flange connections. When the flanges are connected, the gasket must not protrude into the inner wall of the pipe to avoid water flow disturbance.

5. Debugging and verification

- After the water is turned on, observe whether the instantaneous flow is stable and there is no abnormal fluctuation.

- Compare with other instruments or container measurements to verify accuracy.

- Connect to the cloud platform and check the remote upload data and switch valve functions according to the instructions.

6. Maintenance and protection

- Regular maintenance:

- Check whether the transducer surface is scaled (needs regular cleaning).

- Winter antifreeze (add insulation layer or heating belt).

- Data backup: record initial parameters and calibration data for troubleshooting.

Common mistakes to avoid

- × Ignore the straight pipe section requirement, resulting in measurement error > 5%.

- × Incomplete pipe operation, resulting in abnormal readings.

- × Mixing power and signal lines, introducing interference.

Proper installation can extend the life of the water meter and ensure accuracy within ±1%.
